PATRIOT VIPER 3 DDR3 family, 2133mhz, CL11-11-11-27
...designed with blue, high profile coolers. There are many kinds of enthusiast memories on the market, sometimes hard to decide which one to buy but, if we look better, most of them are very similar technically just with different cooling design. Speeds and latencies are things we all should think about and be thoughtful about its high profiles, ask ourselves how will it fit with our CPU and motherboard capabilities...!
Lets start with XMP profile that this VIPER 3 chipset memory supports. It is hardware overclocking information that should be initialized in mobo BIOS to gain true memory benefits. Otherwise, this modules will run at 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 instead of its stock speeds.
I dont know what is happening if you go with offered 16 or 32 kits but I can share my experience with 32GB on 2 pairs of 16GB kits. First of all, on ASUS P9X79 PRO manufacturer XMP profile (2133mhz, 11-11-11-27, 1.5V) will not be stable as manual overclock and there will be BSODs! The reason might be all 8 engaged DIMMs but thats the case here and I tried to resolve it. My experience tells me that good, and stable working clocks can be made with ASUS AI tuning software. It pulls maximum from presented hardware, calculating well together and CPU and memory "communications" + voltages but, dont forget to ask yourself do you HAVE water cooling because i7 3930k really requires one!
And... there is another very nice, manual settings, that give great results, response and performance. It was made with few manual BIOS setting as shown bellow:
- Manual DRAM Frequency of 2133
- DRAM Voltage (CHA, CHB) 1.5V
- DRAM Voltage (CHC, CHD) 1.5V
- DRAM Timing control 12-12-12-27-2T
